Dreamworld has officially announced its next major attraction. Set to open in late 2027, Lost Mine Mayhem is a near $20 million family adventure that will transport guests deep into the fringes of Rivertown.
The new attraction will repurpose the track of the former Motocoaster, but Dreamworld is clear that this project goes far beyond a cosmetic update.
The entire existing track will be dismantled, remediated, repainted, and rebuilt from the ground up, paving the way for a completely modernised ride experience.
A Complete Mechanical Overhaul
At the heart of the upgrade is a significant shift in ride technology. The attraction's original hydraulic launch is making way for an electric tyre-driven launch system, operating on an entirely new control network.
Riders can expect several major functional and thematic upgrades:
- Brand-New ATV Vehicles: The former motorcycle-style trains are being retired. Guests will now sit atop highly themed ATV-style vehicles across two 20-seat trains.
- Upgraded Restraints: New waist-level harnesses will offer greater freedom of movement and enhanced comfort for a wider variety of guests, whilst also allowing for much faster loading and dispatch times.
- New Track Elements: The reimagined circuit will feature added near-miss moments and fresh sensory experiences integrated into the launch and out on the track.
- Immersive Queue and Station: The queue will no longer be a standard waiting area. It is being transformed into an engaging walk-through environment filled with interactive elements that set up the narrative before guests board.

Expanding the Rivertown Narrative
Lost Mine Mayhem is designed to serve as a direct extension of the Rivertown universe rather than a standalone ride. The storyline invites guests to join an expedition into a recently rediscovered underground gold store hidden deep beneath the valley. Riders will board their ATVs to race through ancient chambers and hidden passages, attempting to secure the forgotten treasure before a group of rival raiders can claim it.
Dreamworld CEO Greg Yong emphasised the massive scale of the project during the announcement.
"This isn’t a refresh; it’s a reinvention, and a near $20 million reinvention at that," Yong stated. "We’re creating a completely new experience with a new story, brand-new ATV-style ride vehicles, and the immersive theming Dreamworld is now known for."
Yong noted that the new attraction builds upon the momentum of other recent investments, including Kenny and Belinda’s Dreamland, The Dreamworld Flyer, Rivertown, and King Claw.
"At Dreamworld, we’re not just adding rides, we’re adding chapters to a bigger story," he added.
Once Lost Mine Mayhem opens in late 2027, Dreamworld’s total investment in new guest experiences over recent years will approach the $200 million mark, continuing a massive era of transformation for the Gold Coast theme park.
