The 31st annual AALARA Conference & Trade Show has officially wrapped up at The Star Gold Coast, concluding four days of intensive networking, professional development, and industry celebration.
The event, which ran from 20th April to 23rd April 2026, brought together hundreds of delegates from across the Australian and New Zealand amusement, leisure, and recreation sectors. Under the banner 'Elevate the Experience', the 2026 agenda focused on a resilient future for the industry, balancing the latest global trends with the essential community spirit that defines the region's attractions market.
Strategic Insights and Innovation
Throughout the week, the conference floor was a hub of activity as operators and suppliers explored new ways to enhance guest engagement. Key discussions centred on operational excellence and the integration of smart technologies, such as virtual queuing and advanced data analytics, to streamline park operations.
A significant focus was placed on leadership and the "science of follow-through." Keynote sessions explored how high performers in the leisure sector can eliminate distractions and prioritise the strategies that directly improve the guest experience. For many attendees, the highlights were the practical, "quick win" strategies shared by industry veterans to increase per-capita spending without compromising on value.
A Global Trade Show Floor
The Trade Show portion of the event featured an impressive array of international and local exhibitors. The industry giants, including Mack Rides, accesso, and ZIERER, showcased the latest in ride engineering and software solutions.
From the next generation of high-performance laser tag systems to innovative water ride concepts, the trade floor provided a window into the future of Australian theme parks. These technological advancements are set to roll out across major parks in the coming seasons, promising even more immersive and efficient visits for consumers.

Hands-on Insights: Site Tours Day
The final day of the event on Thursday 23rd April shifted the focus from the conference room to the field with the highly anticipated Site Tours Day. Delegates were given exclusive behind-the-scenes access to two of the region's most prominent attractions, Dreamworld and Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. These tours allowed the industry professionals to observe best-practice operations and animal husbandry in action, providing a practical conclusion to the week’s theoretical discussions.
Celebrating the Community
Beyond the crucial business sessions, AALARA26 maintained its reputation for world-class networking. The social calendar culminated in a spectacular Gala Dinner, where the industry paused to recognise outstanding achievements and milestones within the sector.
Greg Yong, AALARA President, reflected on the success of the gathering:
"AALARA26 has been an opportunity to reflect on a time of great change. By coming together, we have built a stronger, more resilient foundation for the years ahead."
As the delegates depart the Gold Coast, the impact of the discussions held this week will soon be felt by guests across the country, as parks begin to implement the safety protocols, service standards, and innovations highlighted during the event.
