While not a traditional theme park, the annual Moomba Festival transforms central Melbourne into a carnival playground each March.

From 5-9 March 2026, more than 30 rides and attractions will operate as part of the Moomba Festival, giving thrill-seekers and families alike plenty to explore along the Yarra River.

Thrill Rides for Adventurous Visitors

Moomba’s carnival midway offers plenty of high-energy attractions designed to deliver adrenaline and excitement. Here’s a taste of what you can expect see:

Classic & High-Energy Rides

  • Sky Flyer XXL – One of the carnival’s standout thrills, sending riders high above the festival for panoramic views.
  • Zero Gravity – Catapults riders skyward in a sudden, stomach-flipping launch.
  • The Beast – A fast, intense ride with spins and twists that pack a punch for thrill fans.
  • The Spook Coaster – A high-speed coaster with twists and turns suitable for older kids and adults.

These rides are ideal for teenagers and adults chasing that bigger-than-fair-fun experience, and many carry moderate height and age requirements.

Family-Friendly Rides

Moomba’s carnival also has plenty on offer for families and younger guests too. These rides are perfect for kids or a gentler shared experience:

For Younger Riders & Families

  • Go Gator Coaster – A small roller coaster that’s great for kids getting their first thrill.
  • Flying Elephants – Classic family ride with fun circular motion.
  • Cup and Saucer – A gentle spinning ride for all ages.
  • Crazy Cars – Kiddie ride for the youngest festivalgoers.
  • Wave Swinger & Samba Balloon – Swaying but easy-going rides kids can enjoy with parents.
  • Carnival Classics – Other options like Rockin’ Tug, Race-o-Rama and Pirates Revenge offer fun motion without big drops.

These family rides let younger visitors get in on the action without intimidating speed or height restrictions.

Ride Access & Tips

While entry to the Moomba Festival itself is free, rides are ticketed separately. Visitors must purchase individual ride tickets using a coupon system on-site, or on Thursday only (5–9 pm) there’s a special Unlimited Ride Pass giving access to all rides during that window.

Planning ahead can help your audience make the most of busy periods, especially evenings and weekends when queues tend to build.

Beyond the Rides

Of course, the carnival is just one highlight. Moomba 2026 also brings iconic events like the river-spanning Birdman Rally, the colourful Moomba Parade, skate and BMX showcases, dance workshops, live music, and plenty of food trucks along the Yarra.
